THE TEARS OF ARTEMIS

Published 2023

‘THE TEARS OF ARTEMIS,' is a political satire which focuses on Sir George Chambers-Ousby who epitomises the reactionary political establishment. He and the powers that be (which includes the monarchy) clash with the woolly religious, but humane, values of a cult who bizarrely worship the ancient goddess Artemis.

Sir George is inexorably drawn deeper into the cult when Jennifer Shackleson, a cult member, enters his life. All the while there is the build-up to the unveiling of an Artemis statue, and cult members are sure a miracle will take place. Sir George is there to make sure that won't happen - but at times he's his own worst enemy.

The story follows the wit and wisdom of Sir George - an elitist and compulsive political philosopher, which together with his pathological need to indulge in intolerant and insensitive verbal pyrotechnics, manages to exasperate friends and foes alike. But his absolute self-belief is shaken, and his world turned upside down, when he begins a relationship with Jennifer, who is more than a match for him.

His Himalayan intellectual pomposity, together with his obsessive hatred of those who follow Artemis, ensures that trouble follows him wherever he goes. But, ultimately, Sir George is an honourable man whose first consideration is always that of his country.

Writing Journey

I have been writing stories since childhood. Perhaps it was inevitable that writing would end up as a career.

I was made redundant from my job of twenty years in logistics during the pandemic. Made use of this opportunity by achieving what I've always wanted to be - a writer!

“When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young.”

― Maya Angelou
